Texas Runoff - Time and Money

On Tuesday, Texas Attorney General crushed U.S. Senator John Cornyn 64-36:

Looks like all but ONE locality.

The first round of this nomination fight took place back in early March and had Cornyn winning 42 - 40.5 while Congressman Wesley Hunt getting 13.5% of the vote.

Texas has a run off system that requires the nominee to get at least 50% of the vote - which is a good thing.

Massive Turnout Drop Off

March - 2.166 mm votes

May - 1.387mm votes

779,000 LESS votes from March to May.

36 PERCENT of March GOP voters didn’t even vote in May.

March Democratic Primary Results

Democrats turned out 153,000 MORE votes in their primary for the US Senate than the Republicans did back in MARCH.

Couple that raw vote number with the fact that the GOP spent 84 days attacking each other versus uniting behind one candidate and the Democrats rightly have a chance now in Texas.

It’s a long shot, but not as long as it should have been.

The first credible polling results between James Talarico (D) and Paxton should be out in 10 to 14 days since it takes a couple of weeks for the dust to settle on these things.

Texas is a BIG and expensive state.

Republicans could have put this thing away by now and boosted their chances to retain their Senate majority.

They wasted two of the most valuable political commodities - Time and Money while driving up their own candidate’s negatives.
