Today's JOT - Super majority of Americans support this constitutional amendment
Back to the future?
JOT this one down - a super majority of Americans, according to the July Harvard/Harris poll, support a constitutional amendment to balance the budget within 10 years.
That’s a big deal given that both Joe Biden and Donald Trump have taken Social Security and Medicare - a.k.a. entitlement reform - off the table for the 2024 cycle.
What to watch for - whether candidates return to fiscal responsibility as a campaign issue and how the public.
What will happen - the issue will start working its way into polling. If it pops, it will move up in speeches as candidates try to find the right words, and then we’ll see the issue start to move into the broader political conversation.
Currently, national debt and deficits come in at #7.
Would love to see where Independents rank it - could be a real sleeper issue for the cycle.
Harvard/Harris is a monthly online weighted survey of over 2,000 registered voters (RVs)
