We’ll cover it all.
This scene from Modern Family has been running in my mind lately when I think about the conversations being held by Democrats these days:
Unless Democrats replace Joe Biden, they are going to lose in a national electoral landslide. Maybe even the popular vote for the first time since 2004.
#3 child, Nora, texted me yesterday morning at 6:30. I had already been at a local Starbucks for an hour so I was not alarmed. Her contact is saved as Nora Is Awesome Like I’m Totally Not Even Kidding.
So when Nora Is Awesome Like I’m Totally Not Even Kidding pops up on my screen, I smile. Every time.
This time, however, NIALITNEK, asked a rather blunt question about Project 2025 and would many people at the RNC be supporting it?
Damn. 6:30AM. Yeah, I’m fine thanks…
Nora was totally not even kidding about her concerns about Project 2025.
She had heard and/or seen horrible things about it. I told her to read it and get back to me with specific concerns but remember we have three branches of government, a Senate with a filibuster, and the whole thing was designed to move slowly in order to protect our/your rights.
The whole thing is available here - Project 2025 Heritage Foundation
From the linked below Atlantic article, Trump campaign manager Chris LaCivita was asked about it:
supposed policy plans for the second Trump administration being floated by “those quote-unquote allies” on the MAGA right. (“It’s the Project ’25 yokels from Heritage. They and AFPI”—the America First Policy Institute, another think tank—“have their own little groups that raise money. They grift, and they pitch policy,” LaCivita said. “They have their own goals and their own agendas, and they have nothing to do with winning an election.”) In his mind, all the “noise”—Trump’s authoritarian spitballing very much included—is a source of levity.
Bottom line: everyone can calm down about Project 2025. Like I’m not even kidding. Totally.

Absolute Must Reads
Tim Alberta in The Atlantic - TRUMP IS PLANNING FOR A LANDSLIDE WIN And his campaign is all but praying Joe Biden doesn’t drop out.
Campaign Manager and Purple Heart Marine Chris LaCivita finally get some long overdue public recognition:
If LaCivita were to acknowledge his trepidation about the man he’s working for—
“Boom!” he said, interrupting with a faux gunshot noise. “You’re done. You’re done. Hesitation in combat generally gets you killed.”
Even if you’re hesitating for good reason?
“Hesitation in combat gets you killed,” LaCivita said again, leaning across the table this time. He pounded his fist to punctuate every word: “I. Don’t. Hesitate.”
In that moment, the sum of my conversations with LaCivita and Wiles and their campaign deputies began to make sense. For all their lofty talk of transformation—transforming their boss’s candidacy, transforming Republican politics, transforming the electorate, transforming the country—it continues to be Trump who does the transforming.
Yuval Levin of AEI and National Review - Our Deformed Party System
Now we have arrived at an election in which one party’s candidate is psychologically unfit to be president, the other’s is physically and mentally unfit to be president, and both are intensely unpopular. Will that be enough to hammer home the lesson that what the parties are doing isn’t working?
Republicans concede that Trump, a native New Yorker who built a business empire in the state and was a mainstay in the city’s tabloids long before becoming a national figure, faces a steep uphill climb to win the state. But just a close race in New York is an indication of how successful Trump’s campaign could be nationally with an otherwise deeply polarized electorate.
“Even if he doesn’t win New York and New Jersey,” Staten Island Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis said, “if he comes close, what does that tell you about the rest of the country?”

From 2013 Brookings Institute - Holder: We’ve Droned 4 Americans, 3 By Accident. Oops.
But after acknowledging that the administration did “not specifically targe[t]” those three Americans, Holder defended killing Americans the administration believes to be members of al-Qaida without due process, a constitutionally questionable proposition.
