Okay.
BIG night in Virginia politics Tuesday.
Most of my predictions were spot on except for Chap Petersen’s loss and the hedged bets on Jeremy McPike and George Barker split. Not bad overall.
Don’t think every vote matters lesson #2023:
Winners from Tuesday:
Governor Glenn Youngkin
Virginia Senate Republican Caucus
House Republican Speaker Todd Gilbert and Majority Leader Terry Kilgore.
Democratic AND Republican women; however, check out this stat/graphic:
Other winners:
Clean Virginia
Abortion Rights candidates
Gun Control advocates (Petersen’s loss)

Speaking of abortion, here is the latest in polling from Gallup:
Look for the debate on abortion this fall to be very heated with the GOP candidates trying to paint Democrats as going too far on abortion. Pro-choice appears to be now defined as supporting third trimester abortions.
Maybe Republicans will finally find a consistent message on abortion. Has it been 50 years already? Time flies…
Gallup also shows there is some hay to make on the culture debates:
Switching back to national politics and the hourly polling updates we are getting…
Aggregation and averaging of how well Joe Biden and Donald Trump are doing with Independents:
Our #4 just got his first paycheck as an investment bank analyst (during his summer before senior year BTW - yes humblebrag) and the old soul himself was instantly displeased at how much Social Security is taken out. #ShockedFace
John knows it won’t be there for him and called Bravo Sierra. #Math
While both Biden and Trump have said that neither will “touch” Social Security or Medicare, the next generation of voters will have no choice.
Former CBO director Douglas Holtz-Eakin called Social Security “Grenada” but Medicare he likened to “Vietnam.”
Here’s a graphic on Medicare:
Why worry?
Since both Biden and Trump are mired in legal battles that historically would have ended presidential campaigns (see above graphic on morals), have a go at Trump AG Bill Barr’s take on the most recent Trump indictment:
And this fun one:

Congrats or something…
And Geopolitical Futures on China.
Bottom line - we need to be be careful and not overplay our hand. They got issues, too.
